Product data on Foodmetria comes from Open Food Facts, an open database of food products from around the world maintained by a non-profit and thousands of contributors.
- The database is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
- Individual contents of the database are available under the Database Contents License (DbCL) 1.0.
- Product photos are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license; authors are Open Food Facts contributors.
US label data: USDA FoodData Central
For products sold in the United States we also use USDA FoodData Central (Branded Foods), a database of nutrition labels maintained by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Its data is in the public domain (CC0 1.0).
We use it narrowly: the household serving size printed on the label (for example “1 cup (30 g)”) and added sugars when Open Food Facts doesn't have them. We only use a USDA record when its calories and sugars match the Open Food Facts data for the same barcode; values taken from USDA are marked on the product page. All other values come from Open Food Facts.
How often data is updated
We import the daily Open Food Facts change files, so corrections made on Open Food Facts usually appear here within a day or two.
USDA FoodData Central publishes new Branded Foods releases a few times a year; we load each release after it comes out.
What Foodmetria adds
Category averages, percentiles, nutrient levels, % Daily Value, summaries and FAQs are calculated by Foodmetria from the data above.
